NOBODY’S PRETTY

…in a Jim Denomie painting.  Whereas artists might be tempted to make American Indians appear good looking, noble, virtuous—Jim Denomie doesn’t.  You’ll see.   Here is a guy who is very free with his images.  Whatever he’s thinking about flows freely in paint, and it evolves and develops.  That is quite a talent and a gift.  His subject matter might be rated ‘PG’ requiring parental guidance no matter how old you are.  He will be here at Tamástslikt this coming Saturday, May 21, 1pm, a free public program brought to you by Crow’s Shadow Institute.  http://www.crowsshadow.org/stories/139   You can go to http://www.smm.org/anthropology/denomie/

to view a Science Museum of Minnesota  interview in which Jim Denomie talks about his painting, Non-Negotiable.  It’s a wee bit disappointing that he doesn’t have a “Fargo” accent.
